Giuseppe Rossi
Violin maker

Giuseppe Rossi lived in Citadella, Padua, and studied at the Venice Academy of Fine Arts. He subsequently moved to Rome, where he developed an interest in violin making. He established himself in Albano Laziale, Rome. Rossi worked on Cremonese, Neapolitan, and Venetian models, utilizing golden-red spirit varnish. He received several medals: Padua 1893, Livorno 1908, and at the Santa Cecilia competitions in Rome from 1915 to 1918. He was appointed luthier to the Royal Musical Institute of Santa Cecilia and the Royal Conservatoire. An important figure in early 20th-century violin making in Rome, he was credited with over 600 instruments, including viols, cellos, and double basses.
