Rodolfo Fredi
Violin maker
(1861 – 1950)
Rodolfo Fredi was the son and pupil of Count Fabio Fredi and moved to Rome in 1889 to study at the Conservatoire, ultimately establishing a business at 24 Via Vicenza. He was an accomplished maker, credited with 450 violins, 70 violas, and 50 cellos, as well as double basses and viols, using models primarily derived from Stradivari. His work is noted for its careful craftsmanship and good tonal qualities, featuring an oil-based varnish with a golden-yellow hue. Fredi taught Vittorio Bellarosa, who regarded himself as Fredi's sole pupil. He received medals in Turin in 1911 and in Rome in 1917, exhibited at Cremona in 1937, and was appointed president of the Rome Association of Violin Makers in 1927.
