Trained in his uncle Celeste's workshop, many of Celestino Farotti's early instruments bear his uncle's label and are almost indistinguishable in style. After Celeste's death in 1928 Celestino began to cultivate a more individual approach, with wider purfling and softer edges. Nonetheless he continued to rely on models used ...Read More by the family, especially Stradivari and Pressenda. He is known to have made violas in the white for the Bisiach brothers in the 60s, some of which bear a Varagnolo label dated from 1909 to 1916. The craftsmanship is good, and the varnish is also quite similar to his uncle's, except when Celestino used a reddish-orange oil varnish inclined to cracquel. Read Less
