Gaetano Antoniazzi
Violin maker
(1825 – 1897)
Gaetano Antoniazzi was presumed to be a pupil of Enrico Ceruti. He lived in Mantua from around 1855, likely assisting the elderly Giuseppe Ceruti. After Ceruti's death in 1860, he returned to Cremona, where he stayed until 1870, except for a year spent in Genoa in 1865, when he finally moved to Milan. He assisted Leandro Bisiach during his last decade. His style owes much to Enrico Ceruti, and his workmanship is generally very refined, although it was sometimes compromised by poor materials. His work was not signed until the Milan period beginning in 1870.
