Peter Christian Paulsen emigrated to the USA in 1882. He was a pupil of P. P. Adamsen. From 1893 to 1908, he worked in Chicago for Lyon & Healy and then for the Mills Novelty Company from 1908 to 1919. In 1919, he established his own business in Manistee. After his death in 1920, the business continued as Paulsen and Fredericks. He claimed to have produced over 5, 000 instruments, while Wenberg estimated the total at 246. His instruments featured thick red varnish, with some parts possibly pre-fabricated, and generally exhibited fine workmanship. They were branded on the interior.
