Herman A. Weaver
Violin maker

Herman A. Weaver was a musician and active violin maker from 1898. He studied under David Ruschenberg in Denver, Colorado from 1903 to 1907. He worked for Lyon & Healy in Chicago under John Hornsteiner from 1907 to 1910. He then worked for J. A. Krug in Detroit, Michigan from 1910 to 1913 and for Adolph Spicker in Cincinnati from 1913 to 1916. He established himself independently in Norfolk, Virginia, then Baltimore from 1923 to 1935, and finally settled in Washington D. C. in 1935. His company was known as the House of Weaver. From 1950, he was assisted by his son Jack. He was a highly esteemed repairer and restorer. He also made 275 violins, 14 violas, and several cellos and double basses, using Stradivari, Guarneri, and personal models. He created his own oil varnish in golden-amber, brown, and red-gold colors. His instruments were branded: 'Herman Weaver. '.
