Louis Moitessier was the son of Prosper Antoine Moitessier. He was a prolific maker known for large models. His work was well made but featured meagre brown varnish, with some pieces having a somewhat better transparent yellow varnish. Some items included carved lion's heads or painted decorations, while others were recorded with both the back and table cut from maple. Although he served as an influential teacher, particularly to C. V. Rambaux, his own creations held little general worth. They were generally branded as if made in Paris: 'Moitessier à Paris'.
