Jakob Tiedemann
Violin maker
(b. 1879)
Jakob Tiedemann was a self-taught maker known for Stradivari, Guarneri, and personal models. He created several copies of the Guarneri del Gesù 'Cannone' violin from 1743, which was owned by Paganini. His work featured golden- to red-brown oil varnish. Over 200 violins and cellos were completed in various grades, ranging from 'orchestral' to 'artist'. He received a state prize in Berlin in 1922. His instruments were branded internally, and they included a printed label that read: Copie de / Giuseppe Guarnerius del Jesu 1743 Jakob Tiedemann, Altenbruch 19.
