Jean Werro was a pupil of Leon Fischesser in Geneva. He established himself in Islington, north London, in 1890. In 1914, he moved to Bern, where his brother Henry joined him. He established one of the leading ateliers in Europe, creating violins based on Stradivari models with golden-orange varnish. His work was very fine. In 1927, he and his son Henry were awarded a gold medal in Geneva. He was chiefly occupied with restoration and expertise. Instruments were branded internally.
