Nicolaus Georg Skomal
Violin maker
(c. 1776 – 1820)
Nicolaus Georg Skomal was appointed luthier to the Austrian court in 1809. He produced violins and plucked instruments characteristic of the Prague school. His work featured a flat arch with mediocre brown varnish and fairly plain materials. Henley described cellos made on a Guadagnini-like model as being of better quality. Various labels were found with the name listed as Nicolaus Skomal, Georg Skomal, and Nicolaus Georg.
