Jan Baptista Dvorak
Violin maker
(1825 – 1890)
Jan Baptista Dvorak apprenticed to Jan Kulik from 1840 to 1844. He worked in Budapest for J. B. Schweitzer and in Vienna for Anton Hofmann before establishing himself in Prague. His instruments were based on Stradivari and Guarneri models. They were well constructed but not as distinguished as those made by his son Karel Boromejsky. The varnish varied in quality; some featured very vivid colors, while others were darker and slightly opaque, generally with a thin consistency. He also made guitars. The printed label read: Joh: Bapt: Dworák / Geigen and Guitarenmacher. Prag. J. B. Dvorák / fecit Pragae. 18..
