John Edward Harris



(1860 – 1951)

John Edward Harris established himself independently in Shildon, Bishop Auckland from 1894, after being a pupil of George Chanot in London, and moved to Gateshead in 1908. He was assisted by his two sons, Ernest and John Edward Jr. His violins were finely crafted using Stradivari and Guarneri models and good materials. He retailed his own amber varnish.
