Hippolyte Chrétien Silvestre was the nephew, pupil, and successor of Pierre and Hippolyte Silvestre in Lyons, and the son of Pierre and Hippolyte's sister. Initially trained in Mirecourt, he joined his uncles and took over the business in 1865.
