Andrew (Alexander) Hume
Violin maker
(1864 – 1941)
Andrew (Alexander) Hume was a self-taught musician and violin maker who was active in Dumfries, then in Peterborough, around 1915-1916, and finally at 34 Great Portland Street, London. He almost certainly relied on factory-made instruments that he imported, which he then adjusted and labelled. In trade advertisements, he made several spurious claims about having studied at the Royal Academy of Music and in violin schools located in Germany and Bohemia.
