Franz Josef Klier
(b. 1901)
Franz Josef Klier was the son of Joseph. He apprenticed with R. Schuster and was later employed by Winterling in Hamburg. From 1924 to 1927, he returned to Schuster and established himself independently in Cassel starting in 1928. His workshop was destroyed by Allied bombing in 1943, after which he settled in Bubenreuth. He was known for very fine workmanship, creating copies of many classical makers and using a rich, soft oil varnish in appropriate shades. He received a gold medal at Ghent in 1927.
