László Zsiga
Violin maker
(1914 – 1955)
László Zsiga was the son of violin dealer and repairer Lajos Zsiga. He studied with D. Barany, M. Frirsz, and I. Havas. Although he briefly left violin making, he returned in 1954 to work with P. Saransky, M. Frirsz, and J. Meszaros. He established himself independently from 1954 but died the following year. His widow continued the workshop under the direction of Saransky and later Meszaros, whom she married. He produced good professional work on Stradivari and Guarneri models, using oil varnish in a red-orange color. He also made double basses with spirit varnish.
