Elizabeth Hare II
(c. 1730 – 1752)
Wife and successor of Joseph Hare (I). From 1739 she took on an apprentice, James Vincent, but her son Joseph (II) was apprenticed away from the family shop with William Spyer. The Birchin Lane premises were destroyed by fire in 1748 and Elizabeth moved to 'The Bass Viol & Hautboy', Mansion House, Cheapside. Violins with Elizabeth's label are found, and the style and workmanship is consistent with other makers of the family.
