Louis Blitz was the son of violinist Carel Blitz, who established a violin shop in Rotterdam in 1905. He studied under J. van de Geest. From 1920 to 1923, he worked for Vedral in The Hague, then was employed by Maucotel and Deschamps in Paris. In 1924, he joined the family business, where he both made and restored instruments.
