Violin maker
(1904 – 1996)
Louis Blitz was the son of violinist Carel Blitz, who established a violin shop in Rotterdam in 1905. He studied under J. van de Geest. From 1920 to 1923, he worked for Vedral in The Hague, then was employed by Maucotel and Deschamps in Paris. In 1924, he joined the family business, where he both made and restored instruments. He co-founded the Netherlands Group of Violin and Bow Makers in 1949 and remained active in the organization until 1975. A diploma was awarded to him in The Hague in 1949. His son Otto Carel succeeded him in business. He produced fine work on various models and used a rich orange-brown varnish.
