Péter Pál Beke

Péter Pál Beke was born in 1883 in Felsopusztaszer and died in 1945 in Bugacspurta, Hungary. He grew up as a shepherd on the family farm and began making violins in 1910. He trained with R. Laumann and then with L. Otto in Düsseldorf, where he learned bow making. He subsequently went to J. Held in Cologne and later worked in Paris and Luby. In 1919, he established himself in Budapest and took on P. Damm as an apprentice. He made both bowed and plucked instruments, as well as bows, featuring Guarneri and personal models with a flat arch, delicate scroll, and shaded orange-brown varnish.
