Matthias Albani I

Violin maker
(c. 1621 – 1673)

Matthias Albani recorded in Bolzano as a master luthier, but authenticated work is extremely rare and difficult to discern; it is generally described as of the Stainer type. False labels from the 1640s circulate widely, mostly found in poor German trade instruments. He is often conflated with Matthias Albani (II) in published works.
