Salvatore Bofill
Violin maker
(fl. 1733 – 1756)
Salvatore Bofill was an important maker of the Spanish school. His work featured a very interesting and characterful personal model. It had a good low arch and open soundholes with large nicks, which were set upright and very close to the edge. The purfling was broad but neatly inlaid. He crafted a well-carved scroll that was nicely concentric yet narrow, with widely projecting eyes. The varnish was a delicate golden-yellow. His cellos were of large form.
