Giovanni Battista Rugeri
Violin maker
(1653 – 1711)
Giovanni Battista Rugeri was the son, pupil, and assistant of Francesco Rugeri. Very few authenticated instruments bore his label, but those that did were sophisticated and beautifully crafted in the Rugeri tradition, with some featuring a deeper red varnish than typically associated with Francesco. His own work is largely unknown, although he may have collaborated with his younger brother Vincenzo, who opened his own workshop in Cremona, as they lived on the same street as Vincenzo.
