Floriano Guidanti
Violin maker
(c. 1643 – 1715)
Floriano Guidanti worked in the parish of San Sigismondo before moving to the Pelacani in San Mamolo, and then to the parish of Santa Cecilia in 1692. He was appointed luthier to the Accademia Filarmonica of Bologna around 1665, where he may have served as a repairer of instruments. His instruments featured an Amatisé model with full arching and fine open-cut soundholes, finished with a thin light-golden varnish. The Guidanti family of makers, which includes Floriano, worked in Bologna during and immediately after the Tononi family, and recent research indicates that the family was larger than previously understood, though definitive attributions to them remain speculative until further research is conducted.
