Gaspare Vimercati
Violin maker
(c. 1750 – c. 1790)
Gaspare Vimercati was a maker of plucked instruments. Some violins were reported, though of negligible significance. He worked at the sign 'Della Luna' in Contrada Dogana. His son, Pietro Vimercati (b. 1778, d. 1850), was a celebrated mandolin virtuoso who was contemporary with Paganini. He claimed to come from four generations of stringed instrument makers in Venice and Milan.
