Alfred Ernest Chanot established himself at 29 Rathbone Place, London, in 1930, as the son and pupil of Frederick William Chanot. He was a fully realized maker and copyist in the family tradition, although his work was rarer than that of many others in his family due to his role as a repairer. He retired to East Sheen in 1940. His instruments are marked with "A. E. Chanot. Fecit London. / A. D. 1922 A. E. C."
