Edward Tubbs, the third son and pupil of William Tubbs, began assisting his father William around 1850 and trained as a bow maker. He established his business at 38 Castle Street, London, in 1872, but emigrated to New York in 1878, where he was joined ...Read More by his brother John in 1888. Tubbs asserted that his shop operated as a retailer of stringed instruments, distinguishing himself from other so-called 'violin makers' in New York who imported and relabeled European work. Bows made in London were branded: E. TUBBS, while those produced in New York were branded: E. TUBBS N. Y. He continued to be active in the industry until his death in 1924. Read Less
