Chiarissimo Bondanelli was a chemist by profession and an active maker of violins and bows starting in 1946. He exhibited in Ancona in 1957 and received a gold medal in 1971. In 1979, he was appointed as the restorer of Paganini's del Gesù 'Cannone' violin in Genoa. He focused on classical models and developed his own golden-yellow varnish using a mixture of alcohol and turpentine. He was born in Novara in 1949.
