Primo Contavalli was the son and pupil of Luigi Contavalli. He was a fairly prolific maker of instruments, using personalized Stradivari and Guarneri models, and applied a golden-yellow varnish. Contavalli received a silver medal in Rome in 1920 and was generally regarded more highly than his father. His work featured a good classical model with personal touches.
