Thomas Tilley
Violin maker
(c. 1744 – 1779)
Thomas Tilley was a presumed pupil of Joseph Hill. He established himself in St. James' around 1744. He was a prolific maker, particularly known for cellos. Amatise model violins were also recognized. His workmanship was fair, though not of the consistent quality of Hill. He used a thin golden-yellow spirit varnish.
