Henry Thorowgood
(c. 1750 – 1765)
Henry Thorowgood was an entrepreneurial dealer in trade work made by outworkers. The shop was established at the sign of the 'Violin & Guitar' in the North Piazza, Royal Exchange. From around 1864, he worked in partnership, and the business became known as Thorowgood & Home, relocating to Cheapside. He produced typical London Stainer copies featuring painted purfling and red spirit varnish. His label appeared in the works of various makers, including those by Richard Duke.
