Johann (Jan) Strobl II
Violin maker
(1700 – 1753)
Johann (Jan) Strobl was the son of Johann Strobl (I). He was thought to have been a pupil of J. Hellmer in Prague. He established himself independently in Olomouc from 1724. His work was rarely encountered, although he seemed to have been a prolific maker of harps, viols, violas, and various other stringed instruments. The Tyrolean model was typical of the Vienna school, featuring fine golden-yellow and red-brown varnish.
