Isaiah H. Arey
Violin maker
(1826 – 1870)
Born in Wellfleet, MA; worked in Boscawen, NH. Instruments are stamped "IHA" below the button. Made violins and guitars. Received a diploma at the Mechanics Fair in Boston in 1856.
A friend of the Norwegian virtuoso Ole Bull, who assisted him with drawings and information.
He largely designed his own patterns and used old wood from building sites. Invented a new form of chinrest and an instrument stand.
