Franz Georg Rost
(1869 – c. 1960)
Franz Georg Rost apprenticed to August Voigt in Markneukirchen from 1883 to 1886. He worked for Paulus in Leipzig, Hammig in Dresden, Louis Otto in Düsseldorf, Laumann in Budapest, and Zimmermann in Leipzig. He established his own workshop in London from 1903 to 1922, before moving to New York to work for Wurlitzer from 1923 to 1928, residing in Astoria, Long Island. In 1928, he returned to London, working on Lexington Street. His models included Stradivari and Guarneri. He produced fine workmanship and created an orange to dark red soft oil varnish of his own making. Manuscript labels:.
