Thomas Powell
Violin maker
(c. 1770 – 1790)
Thomas Powell was the brother of Royal Powell and was employed by Forster. He established himself independently at 18 St. Clements Lane from 1770. Around 1794, he moved to 9 Paradise Row, Hammersmith, and then to St John's Square in 1800. His work featured fine craftsmanship in the Forster style and utilized red-brown varnish. Several small violas remain extant. He made one in 1793 at No. 18 Clemens Lane, Clare Market.
