Ribs: decorated with gilt borders and inscribed in gilt "Pietas et Justica"

"This cello is a copy of the instrument known as 'Il Re', one of the group made by Andreas Amati for Charles IX of France. Previously sold by Messrs. Phillips of Bond Street by the head of the Musical Instruments Department, the late Ted Stollar, who handled the sale of the Hill Collection of which this Cello was a part (the figure board is stamped with the W.
