"This instrument was a gift to Menuhin from his teacher, Georges Enescu, in 1954, the year before Enescu's death. In his autobiography, "Unfinished Journey," Menuhin recalls: 'He also gave me, as a gift, his first good violin, a Santo Serafino, bought with his earnings as a student in Vienna; I still keep it zealously."Sotheby's Menuhin Collection of Musical Instruments Auction Catalog, November 16, 1999, London, Sotheby's, Sotheby's Menuhin Collection of Musical Instruments Auction Catalog, November 16, 1999, London, London
