Signed internally.
Back: Two-piece
Length of back: 35.5 cm
Upper bouts: 16.65 cm
Middle bouts: 11.15 cm
Lower bouts: 20.75 cm
Notes:
"The instrument is made from willow and the centre-linings are let shallowly into the blocks. While many makers at this time used lighter wood inside their instruments or stained it, this violin's lovely aged colour is probably due to Genovese's special wood treatment. As is characteristic of Genovese's instruments made after 1915, his signature and the year appear on the inner upperleft rib, head to bottom, as Fagnola's had done after his early years. The scroll is securely carved with a narrow chamfer which is painted black, in the Italian manner, over the varnish." There is hardly a scribeline visible on the centreline of his scrolls which is surprising since these are quite pronounced on his teacher's instruments."
