Notes:
"Only two or three of Januarius' authentic instruments are known and it is believed that the violin illustrated is the only example by this maker at present in this country. Although his instruments are exceedingly rare it is likely that he made a far larger number than the few he is credited with. It is quite possible that for many years his violins have been passing as the work of his master Nicolo Amati, Andrea Guarneri, or other Cremonese makers of this period."Jacobus Januarius, The Strad, January, 1950, London
