William Tubbs
(1814 – 1878)
Son of British bowmaker Thomas Tubbs, William Tubbs worked for the Dodd workshop, where he probably received guidance from James and Edward Dodd III in addition to his father. After Edward Dodd III's death in 1851 Tubbs inherited his supplies, and continued to make bows with the assistance of at least five of his children, including the celebrated James and his brother Edward. He is credited with refining the model of the English bow and recovering its more classical characteristics from the eccentricities of his father's work.
