Omobono Felice Stradivari
Violin maker
(1679 – 1742)
Omobono Stradivari was one of Cremonese titan Antonio Stradivari's sons from his first marriage. From around 1700 onward he seems to have made instruments from time to time, alongside his brother Francesco, but was largely involved in the business aspects of the enterprise rather than shop work and traveled frequently. Numerous instruments are attributed to him, though he seems to have relied on handwritten labels rather than printed ones. In general the work of Francesco and Omobono is most appreciated for its connection to their illustrious father, whom they did not equal as craftsmen or artists. Omobono lived only five more years after his father's death in 1737.
