Igino Sderci
Violin maker
(1884 – 1983)
Igino Sderci trained as a wood carver and was initially self-taught as a violin maker before becoming a pupil of L. Bisiach in Sienna during World War I. He later moved to Florence in 1926, where he frequently collaborated with Carlo Bisiach and taught Bisiach's sons. Sderci received high awards at the Cremona Exhibitions in 1937 and 1949 and became one of the most prolific makers of the 20th century, completing over 700 violins and violas, with only one cello recorded. His instruments, primarily based on Stradivari or Amati models, are noted for their fine workmanship, featuring a neat, well-finished, and concentric scroll, along with a good golden-orange varnish. Internally, he inscribed 'Tatto a Firenze da Igino Sderci,' and the printed label read: Igninius Sderci fecit / Florentia anno 19
