Rocco Domenico Doni
Violin maker
(c. 1690 – 1725)
Rocco Domenico Doni worked during the first half of the eighteenth century, as indicated by surviving violins that reflect the style of Gabrielli. There was a strong Stainer influence in the outline, soundholes, and scroll, along with very full arching. The varnish was gold-orange. It is possible that there were two makers with this name, a father and son. This name is also associated with several richly decorated lutes.
