Augustino De Planis
Violin maker
(c. 1725 – 1800)
Augustino De Planis created rather loose work, typical of the Genovese school. The soundholes were long and angled, and the arch was flat with pale yellow-gold varnish over a grey ground. He had a slender pegbox that was broad from the rear aspect, featuring a small volute and long 'c' bouts with diminutive corners. His son, Antonio (d. 1841), was also a maker, but his work has not been positively identified.
