Charles Hunnicut was a farmer and self-taught violin maker, receiving some guidance from David Struble in Washington. He made approximately 60 violins using the Stradivari model, utilizing local materials and imported commercial oil varnish that was golden- or orange-red in color. His workmanship was fine. A copy of the Alard Strad was made by him in Wilmington, Ohio, in 1928, and is numbered 43.
