Rene Aerts
Violin maker
(1883 – 1942)
Rene Aerts apprenticed in Mirecourt. He worked in Germany and England before establishing his own shop at 7, avenue de la Régence in Brussels in 1921. He succeeded Darche as the luthier to the Conservatoire. In 1932, he emigrated to Los Angeles with his son Marcel. He created excellent copies of classical masters, including Guadagnini and Gagliano. A set of instruments was furnished for the 'Pro Arte' quartet. Violas and cellos were particularly esteemed.
