Anselmo Gotti
Violin maker
(1902 – 1962)
Anselmo Gotti was the nephew of Orsolo Gotti and a violinist who studied under Ettore Soffritti in Ferrara starting in 1922. After establishing himself independently in Ferrara, he completed several instruments left unfinished by Soffritti after his death in 1928. In 1930, he worked on restoration for Anton Wittman in Vienna, returning to Ferrara the following year to finish instruments left by Armando Monterumici. From 1933, Gotti focused on creating new instruments, producing fine imitations of Stradivari and Guarneri, as well as his own personal models, utilizing red-brown oil varnish and high-quality materials. During World War II, he worked in Pieve di Cento.
