Gennaro De Luccia
Violin maker
(1901 – 1990)
Gennaro De Luccia worked in Casigliano and Mercato Cilento, Salerno. He was primarily a maker of guitars and mandolins but also produced a significant number of violins with clear orange-yellow varnish, which were mostly exported to the USA. He emigrated to America in 1951 to work with his brother Vincenzo in Philadelphia. Later, he worked for Rembert Wurlitzer in New York from 1952 to 1956, before relocating to Miami. He retired in 1978. His instruments featured a Stradivari model, orange-red spirit varnish, and were signed internally. Over 200 instruments were completed, showcasing excellent craftsmanship. They were branded on the upper blocks as 'De Luccia'. The printed label read: Gennaro de Luccia / figlio di Michele / fete in Mercato Cilento Anno 1932 Gennaro de Luccia / fece in Casigliano Cilento / Italia (Salerno).
