Violin maker
(1812 – 1866)
Charles Adolphe Gand, son and pupil of Charles François Gand, became active around 1830 and took over the family business in 1845, running it alone until 1855 when he collaborated with his brother Eugéne under the name 'Gand Frères' until 1866. Renowned for his expertise in fine violins and their restoration, he produced relatively few instruments himself, with his work on the Stradivari model noted for its fine finish and soft orange varnish.
