Spanish violin maker Mariano Ortega learned his craft with his father Silverio and worked alongside him in the 1800s, mostly performing repairs of distinguished instruments. His work has flatter arching than that of his father, and is of good materials, with a dark and nicely textured transparent oil varnish. Certain details in the edgework are rough, but scrolls are deeply carved, and sound quality is generally good. Handwritten and printed labels are both known.
