Louis Collenot
Violin maker
(1863 – 1933)
Louis Collenot was the grandson of F. Caussin and a pupil of H. Caussin. He worked for Derazey in Mirecourt from 1876 to 1882 and assisted his uncle N. Caussin until 1889. In 1897, he established himself in Rheims, where he was appointed as the maker to the conservatoire. The outbreak of war forced him to return to Paris, and in 1915 he joined Caressa & Français. He opened his own business in 1917 on rue Boursault, with assistance from his sons. He was credited with over 100 violins crafted in the classical Cremonese style featuring orange shaded varnish, along with some Stainer-type models characterized by high arches. His workmanship was noted for being very clean and well-finished.
